Usha Garodia is creating ceramic sculptures since the last 21 years. She has participated in many shows, exhibitions in India and abroad.

A few words about my work

Since childhood, I was exposed to arts and aesthetics. It started with having an art collector as my father, then my dabbling with paints. That my father was friends with the renowned Indian painter, M. F. Hussain, only helped matters further. Watching him paint was not only immensely enjoyable but also a great learning experience.

Later, I trained under the renowned potter Mr. Mansimran Singh. His constant encouragement spurred me to take part in Pottery shows and hold solo shows in India.

Why Ceramics

Today, ceramic items can be found everywhere. Ceramics finds use in industries such as Automotive, refractory, food processing, instrumentation, semiconductor fabrication, steel, aluminum, chemical, industrial and power generation, to name a few.

Contrary to common perception, ceramics prove to be a better choice than say, metals. Ceramics possesses excellent wear and abrasive resistance; very durable in strong acid and alkaline conditions; can withstand extremely high and low temperatures, making ceramics extremely suitable for artistic designing.

Besides, working with clay to make ceramic sculptures gives me immense joy & satisfaction. It brings me closer to nature and its basic elements, which we are all made up of. The human form has influenced artists from time immemorial & I am no exception. However nature has always been a great source of inspiration for me.
